Brew Guides: Clever Coffee Dripper

We've put together our go-to guides for the most popular brewing methods, these are by no means set in stone, nor can we promise a perfect result each and every time. What we can do however is provide you with a great foundation for a good brew, and allow for a bit of wiggle room and your own experimentation.

Clever Coffee Dripper:

What you need:

  1. Clever Coffee Dripper (CCD)
  2. CCD paper filter
  3. Decanter
  4. Scale
  5. Timer
  6. 250 grams filtered water
  7. Kettle – Regular / Temperature Control
  8. 15g of Coffee beans (Recommended) / Medium-coarse ground coffee
  9. Stirrer
  10. Serving mug

 Before we start:

  1. Heat up the water to 93°C. If you are using a conventional kettle without a thermometer, boil the water and allow it to settle for 1.5mins.
  2. Fold the paper filter along the fold line to ensure a snug fit in the CCD.
  3. Place the paper filter into the CCD and onto the decanter. Pour hot water to rinse the paper filter and heat up the brewing vessel.
  4. Unless pre-ground, grind your coffee to medium coarse grind size.
  5. Weigh out 15g of ground coffee.
  6. Tare the scale.

Brewing steps:

The recipe that we will be using today follows a 1:16 brew ratio – 15 grams of ground coffee to 250 grams of filtered water.

Step 1 – Pouring

Pour 250 grams of water into CCD first, then, the ground coffee. Start your timer.

Step 2 – Agitation

Agitate the coffee by giving it a gentle stir in a circular motion five times, then cover the CCD with its lid.

Step 3 – Brewing
Allow the coffee to steep for 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Step 4 – Extraction

Once the time is up, place the CCD on the decanter to extract. The draw down process will take about a minute, bringing up the the total brewing time to 3:15 – 3:30.

Step 5 – Enjoy!

Remove the CCD and give the decanter a good swirl before pouring the coffee into a serving mug. Enjoy the delicious cup of brewed coffee!
